Sinopsis:

Aparte de su amor por el baloncesto, Nathan Scott ("James Lafferty") y Lucas Scott ("Chad Michael Murray") parecen tener poco en común. Pero les guste o no, ambos jóvenes están unidos - ellos comparten al mismo padre. Arrogante y seguro de sí mismo, Nathan es la estrella del equipo de baloncesto de la secundaria y proviene de una familia acaudalada. Tranquilo y seguro, Lucas es un legendario jugador de baloncesto en las canchas de la calle y el hijo único de una madre soltera. Después de crecer en los lados opuestos del camino en el mismo y pequeño pueblo de Tree Hill, en Carolina del Norte, los medio hermanos de repente encuentran que sus vidas colisionan.
Y justo en el medio está la bella novia de Nathan, Peyton Sawyer ("Hilarie Burton"), una intensamente reservada y sensible chica quien rápidamente siente una conexión con Lucas. Al mismo tiempo, Nathan comienza a sentirse interesado por la mejor amiga de Lucas, Haley James (Bethany Joy Lenz), quien debe lidiar con esta extraña nueva existencia de riqueza y privilegios al lado de Lucas. El padre de Nathan, Dan ("Paul Johansson"), y la madre de Lucas, Karen Roe, ("Moira Kelly") fueron novios en la secundaria. Cuando Karen quedo embarazada durante su último año ella estaba devastada por la decisión de Dan de asistir a la universidad con una beca de baloncesto, dejando a Karen para criar a su hijo, Lucas, sola. Cuando el sueño de Dan de una carrera profesional en el deporte se viene abajo, regresa al pueblo con la esposa que conoció en la universidad y su nuevo hijo, Nathan. Mientras Karen cría a Lucas sin un padre, ella continúa siendo amiga del hermano mayor de Dan, Keith ("Craig Sheffer"), quien ha sido un padre sustituto para Lucas. Es Keith quien convence al canoso entrenador , Whitey Durham (Barry Corbin) , de que invite a Lucas a unirse al equipo, provocando un conflicto con Nathan. Los dos hermanos son ahora compañeros de equipo...
